how many cups will we win in 2018?

After 27 Premier League games, my Liverpool side are first – two points ahead of Chelsea. We’re in the final of the League Cup against Southampton, in the 5th round of the FA Cup versus Man City and the 1st knockout round of the Champions League facing Copenhagen. The City game looks tricky but apart from that, things look pretty straightforward.

Admittedly, having Mo Salah, Bobby Firmino and Sadio Mane up front makes life easier for a manager, but things are going more smoothly than I could have hoped for.

Why not take a look at my squad and tactics?

Players

GK – Mignolet, Karius, Rajkovic

DF – Lovren, Van Dijk, Matip, Gomez, Clyne, Alex-Arnold, Robertson, Jonny, Moreno (listed)

MF – Henderson, Parejo, Can, Wijnaldum (may sell), Aouar, Gomes (Andre – loan), Lallana, Woodburn

FWD – Bobby, Dolberg, Alcacer, Mane, Salah, Solanke

Tactics

Believe it or not, Mane is in and out of the team – usually replaced by Kasper Dolberg – who makes the most of every chance, while I give Salah regular rests, with Alcacer and Solanke coming in. Firmino is too consistent to leave out often. I managed to pick Alcacer from Barcelona for £7.5m and he’s fantastic back-up.

Paco Alcacer

Usually when things are going so well, I’m just waiting for a bigger club to circle and take my best players, but I’m feeling quite relaxed. Even if we lose one of our front three, we have Dolberg who’s good enough to come in and we’ll have a good chunk of money to play with.

Back to tactics and we’ve started playing especially well recently with a really solid block of defence and midfield, helping me to relax and our forwards to attack freely. I think this is due to a simple role change I made. My next match was against Arsenal and I wanted to be more solid. So I changed my DLP(D) at DM into a DM(D) and I changed my AP(S) in central midfield into a DLP(S). It worked great. We looked very solid while our forwards weren’t isolated.

It looks like this

It seems to be the perfect set-up for Liverpool and a manager, like me, who wants to keep clean sheets. Unlike Klopp’s Liverpool, we shouldn’t need to be gung-ho and we can rely on our three forwards to make things happen. Wish me luck for the rest of the season and I’ll try to write a post to show how things panned out!
